About World Water Day

Established by the United Nations (UN) in 1993, World Water Day focuses on the importance of fresh water for all. Globally, about 2.2 billion people live without access to safe drinking water. In Latin America alone, about thirty-five percent of the population lack clean water. World Water Day is annually celebrated on March 22. The UN and organizations worldwide host events to raise awareness and encourage taking action to solve the global water problem. For more information, visit the UN website.
